Last year, I was honored to lead the National Day of Prayer program held at the Statuary Hall, Capitol.\u00a0It was truly a valuable experience in my life.\u00a0As the director of the National Day of Prayer organizing committee, I am responsible for directing collective prayer programs for America.\u00a0<\/span>There are thousands of prayers with millions of participants in the United States on the first day of May<\/span><\/strong><\/b><\/i><\/p>\n

I am entrusted with the great responsibility of this historical program not because of my ability to speak in public but because I believe in the power of the \u201csecret place.\u201d\u00a0The secret place is not a place.\u00a0That secret place is the spiritual state.\u00a0The secret place is anywhere we meet God and connect with Him personally.<\/span><\/strong><\/b><\/i><\/p>\n

Jesus said, \u201cAs for you, when you pray, go into your private room, close the door, and pray to your Father, who is in secret, and to your Father, who sees in that secret place, will reward you\u201d (Matthew 6:6).<\/span><\/strong><\/b><\/i><\/p>\n

Jesus called me to spend time alone with Him and to fellowship with Him intimately;\u00a0and my relationship with God deepened in His presence.<\/span><\/strong><\/b><\/i><\/p>\n

James chapter 4:10 is the root verse for me this year.\u00a0God constantly reminds me of this verse.\u00a0Through God’s word, the Spirit of the Lord constantly reminds me, “Humble yourself before God, and He will exalt you.”<\/span><\/strong><\/b><\/i><\/p>\n

Daily humbling before God in prayer has and continues to change my life.\u00a0However, I want to make one thing clear: the Statuary Auditorium in the majestic Capitol is not the place where God transformed me.<\/span><\/strong><\/b><\/i><\/p>\n

The event that changed my life is an unforgettable one.\u00a0When I was in my freshman year of college, I met my classmates who also loved God.\u00a0We want to please God.\u00a0We want growth.\u00a0We are filled with enthusiasm for God.\u00a0That motivated me and a friend to attend a Bible conference in Dallas\/Fort Worth.\u00a0My friend’s father was a speaker at a conference.\u00a0Little did I know at the time that God was using this experience to change my life and ministry.\u00a0It was an important turning point in my life to this day.<\/span><\/strong><\/b><\/i><\/p>\n

The event did not take place in the church;\u00a0Nor is it a response after a sermon.\u00a0One evening, my friend’s father arranged for us to have dinner and talk with a godly uncle.\u00a0I was hungry at the time, but my spiritual hunger was even greater than my physical need.\u00a0As I listened to this man speak, I was prompted to seek and understand God more deeply.\u00a0Before I left the restaurant, I wanted to ask how to be a godly Pastor.\u00a0I ask a question similar to this, \u201cUncle, can you share one thing young pastors need to know?\u201d\u00a0He looked at me intently and said, \u201cRonnie, if you spend an hour a day with God, you will know for sure what God wants you to do.\u201d<\/span><\/strong><\/b><\/i><\/p>\n

I think I should follow this guy’s advice.\u00a0It was 1975. From that day on, I followed the challenge he gave me.\u00a0This challenge brought me to prayer.<\/span><\/strong><\/b><\/i><\/p>\n

I wanted to be a prayer person even though I didn’t know much about the subject of prayer at the time.\u00a0That very night, God began to work to make me a man of God.\u00a0A dinner at an ordinary restaurant has become a life-changing moment for me.\u00a0That is the work of God.\u00a0That event was truly one of the most profound changes in my life and possibly the most important of all.<\/span><\/strong><\/b><\/i><\/p>\n

The journey to deep prayer began that evening.\u00a0Although I took an introductory prayer class at college, from that particular evening in Texas, I began the 101 prayer program. A simple start to a prayer journey. endless.<\/span><\/strong><\/b><\/i><\/p>\n

From that moment on, I have seen God at work in my life many times, in many ways.\u00a0I watched God heal my wife from cancer.\u00a0I witnessed God at work in the lives of our two children and used them as tools to bring others to Jesus Christ.\u00a0I witnessed the Lord at work during worship with His power.\u00a0I witnessed the Lord bring about true revival for His people.\u00a0I have had the opportunity to speak to thousands of people at conventions and over 1 million at the National Mall in Washington, D.C.\u00a0During my 2 years as president of Southern Baptists, I had the opportunity to guide<\/span><\/strong><\/b><\/i><\/p>\n

Lead thousands of spiritual leaders in meaningful and purposeful prayer meetings.<\/span><\/strong><\/b><\/i><\/p>\n

Besides, I was also disciplined by God because of my pride.\u00a0Many times I have experienced disappointment and discouragement.\u00a0I experienced the journey of walking with God through long periods of fasting and prayer.\u00a0I experienced the overwhelming feeling of God’s presence and was truly amazed that He chose me for His work.<\/span><\/strong><\/b><\/i><\/p>\n

Why did He choose me?\u00a0I’m just an ordinary person from a small town in Texas.\u00a0I attend a small church with a dual-career pastor.\u00a0I am not a particularly gifted person.\u00a0I am not as attractive as many famous leaders, nor do I have the poise.\u00a0I believe the transformation began at dinner in 1975. I see God at work in my life because I obeyed God’s call to enter into prayer.<\/span><\/strong><\/b><\/i><\/p>\n

I am not a master of prayer.\u00a0Until now I have not fully understood all the mysteries of prayer.\u00a0I also like you.\u00a0I myself am on a journey to learn how to communicate with God through prayer.\u00a0Every morning, I go to the Lord and ask Him for the same thing that Jesus’ disciples asked: “Lord, teach me how to pray” (Luke 11:1).<\/span><\/strong><\/b><\/i><\/p>\n

The more time you spend in prayer, the more you will experience the miracles that God can do through prayer.<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/b><\/i><\/p>\n

I want to invite you to prepare to take your life to the next level.\u00a0To experience this, you must get down on your knees to pray.\u00a0You must have an intimate personal relationship with God.\u00a0You will experience a fuller life when you know how to pray effectively.<\/span><\/strong><\/b><\/i><\/p>\n

Don’t take this lightly: Satan your enemy, Satan doesn’t want you to pray.\u00a0He will vehemently resist.\u00a0Satan knows well that when you learn to pray, that’s when he’s in trouble.\u00a0He knew that prayer would activate the power of God.\u00a0That is why Satan hates prayer.\u00a0Don’t be afraid because God is stronger than Satan.<\/span><\/strong><\/b><\/i><\/p>\n
