We’ve covered a few articles now about enemy strategies, which include “tactics of the enemy,” and “Revealing the Enemy’s Advanced Tactics,” as well as covering “tactical strategies to use against the enemy.” We talked briefly about how demons use doorways of sin to gain access to our lives in “tactics of the enemy.” As we remember the enemy schemes against Christians (1 Peter 5:8, Ephesians 6:11) as we’ve seen a number of their traps from these previous articles.

Once a Christian falls into sin, the enemy uses this type of doorway to gain access into our lives. Unless we recognize that we’ve slipped up and repent of whatever brought us to sin in the flesh, the enemy digs in deep creating a stronghold in order to oppress us. Even though we are bought by the blood of Jesus and have salvation in him, that doesn’t mean the enemy can’t access our lives through doorways of sin. We have to remember in 1 John where it tells us:

“If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.” (1 John 1:8)

As we saw in “Tactics of the Enemy,” the enemy crafts temptations through the flesh resulting in us yielding to sin. (James 1:14-15) However, what happens when a doorway wasn’t opened by us, but rather by someone else through another action? We know that demons don’t fight fair, and they take advantage of these situations in order to keep someone in an oppressed state.

The good news is that you can have liberation from these demonic doorways despite who opened them. We’ll show you how to close these doors if you find them open. Today, we will be covering the doorway of “trauma,” and will cover other doorways in future articles. Let’s get started!

Doorway of Trauma

The doorway of trauma can be used both directly and indirectly by the enemy and can affect anyone at any age. However, the enemy tends to target younger people right from the get-go. The spirit of trauma can start right from the womb. We see that this is true from what we see about John the Baptist as he heard the good news about Jesus in the following scripture:

“And it came to pass, that, when Elisabeth heard the salutation of Mary, the babe leaped in her womb; and Elisabeth was filled with the Holy Ghost” (Luke 1:41)

Since developing babies can be influenced by what is said, anything that is negative in its nature could have a detrimental effect on that baby. From arguing parents to a mother who resents the fact she is pregnant not even wanting the baby. This could open a doorway for trauma in the form of rejection and abandonment.

Besides that of babies, children can be effected in a similar manner. When a child witnesses their parents fighting, talking about divorce, going through a divorce, or aren’t shown love by their parents, then emotional trauma can take root while they also may feel rejected or abandoned. If a father and mother never tell their children that they love them, hug them and show compassion, and are verbally negative towards a child, then this can open them up a doorway to a critical and negative spirit through trauma while also feeling rejected. This may result in this individual growing up with this negative critical spirit towards their family, friends, spouse, or even kids without that person even knowing about it.

As people get older, they may experience emotional pain through that of what happens during their natural lives. This may be a result of becoming angry without having a solution to an argument and in turn, harboring unforgiveness in their heart. If an argument is not resolved bitterness, and unforgiveness will open you up to a demonic stronghold. We see this in the following verse:

^“Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath: Neither give place to the devil.” (Ephesians 4:26-27)

Besides that of emotional trauma, physical trauma can take root from an abusive parent, relative, stranger, or even a spouse later in life. This can also happen with sexual abuse and may open an additional doorway to the spirit of perversion based on the condition of that person’s heart.

Trauma creates emotional and physical oppression strongholds from the enemy that may affect a person deeply. So what’s the best way to deal with the spirit of trauma and take down this oppressive stronghold?

Dealing with the Spirit of Trauma

If you happen to have suffered trauma either emotionally or physically and you have never recovered from this, then you need to close this doorway and deal with the spirit of trauma today. As followers of Jesus, it’s important to remember the following verses when dealing with this situation:

“For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” (2 Timothy 1:7)

“There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.” (1 John 4:18)

The first thing a person will need to do is forgive that person who hurt them either emotionally, physically or both. We have to remember that our Heavenly Father forgave us all of our sins when we trusted in Jesus as our Savior and needs us to forgive everyone as well. We see this in the following scriptures:

“For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.” (Matthew 6:14-15)

“And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.” (Ephesians 4:32)

This may be difficult, but it needs to be done. Forgiving this individual is the first step, and the second step is to get rid of the traumatic spirits that no longer have permission to be in your life. You will have to command them to leave out loud by the shed blood and name of Jesus. Here is a sample prayer regarding the forgiveness and then the command to expel the unwanted traumatic spirit through casting it out.

Jesus,

I thank you for giving me eternal life that you have set me free from death and sin. Help me to remember you paid for my life with your blood and gave me a new life in you according to Colossians 3. I forgive (person’s name(s)) who have hurt me in (specific way) as you have forgiven me all my sins as I’m reminded in Matthew 6:14-15. Thank you that I can cast all my cares upon you as I’m reminded 1 Peter 5:7 because you love me so very much.

Thank you that you protect me from traumatic memories and that you would defeat any demonic forces who are trying to harass me or destroy me. Thank you Jesus, for sending your angels to protect me and do mighty battle on my behalf. Thank you for breaking any demonic assignments placed against me and the effects thereof, and disrupt and confuse enemy communications regarding me.

I thank you for these things. In your name, Lord Jesus, I pray. Amen.

(You may pray the second part of this prayer often to keep yourself protected from any demonic forces from coming against you as a defensive prayer.)

Now that you have forgiven that person it’s now time to get rid of the unwanted traumatic spirit who has bothered you through self-deliverance. You need to cast out those spirits of trauma and any of its friends who are not welcome like the spirit of fear, critical spirit, negative spirit, etc.

Sample Command:

In the name of Jesus, (traumatic spirit, critical spirit, etc.) that has tormented me all these years, you are no longer welcome in my life. I have forgiven (person’s name) and what they did against me, and you have no legal right to be here anymore. (traumatic spirit, critical spirit, etc.) you are commanded by the name and blood of Jesus to leave and never return again because Jesus Christ has set me free.

Walking in Liberation with the Holy Spirit

As Christians, it’s important to remember that we have salvation through Christ, and he has washed away all of our sins. However, Jesus tells us we must deny the flesh and pick up the cross and follow him DAILY. (Luke 9:23) This is where many Christians fall in their walks with him because they have gladly accepted salvation, but don’t truly live and trust him in the spirit.

Watchman Nee one of the 20^th century’s greatest Christian authors laid out this fact when he stated:

“It is only when we have yielded our body to the Lord (Romans 6:13) that it is possible for us no longer to be under the dominion of the flesh but under the dominion of the Lord. If we follow the Holy Spirit and maintain an attitude of not letting sin reign over the body (Romans 6:12), then our feet are freed from stumbling and we experience sustained victory. Our body thus delivered becomes the temple of the Holy Spirit and is at liberty to do God’s work. Now the way to preserve one’s freedom from the flesh must be exactly the way this freedom is first obtained at that juncture of life and death when a believer says “yes” to God and “no” to the flesh.”(Nee, 1977)

Final Thoughts

As Christians, we have to remember that although Christ set us free from death and sin, we still sin. This opens doorways which the enemy uses to gain access to our lives and create possible oppressive strongholds. By taking time and growing in our relationship with Jesus as reminded in Colossians 2:6-7 can we deny our flesh and start recognizing these doorways and keep them closed.

When someone has suffered trauma in their lives, problems may have developed opening other doors to negativity, being critical, pain, anger, bitterness, and unforgiveness. It’s important to forgive these people as Christ forgave you, and close these doors, so we can abide in the peace that Christ can only give and grow in the fruit of the Holy Spirit. (John 14:27; Colossians 3:15-16; Galatians 5:22-23)
